Brain Hackers MIT App Inventor Competition

On May 4-6, Garfield STEM School will be hosting the annual Brain Hackers MIT App Inventor Competition in our Gym. Teams of 2-4 students from all around the state will be creating Android apps for mobile devices using the MIT App Inventor platform. This free event will include games, concessions, and support from local businesses. Garfield students will be provided laptops and tablets to do work on their apps. Prizes and trophies will be given to the teams placing in the following categories-most effective, most innovative, most entertaining, and best overall app. More information on Brain Hackers can be found here.

This competition is open to all Garfield students but preference will be given to 7th and 8th grade students as they have completed the App Inventor curriculum in 7th grade. The full curriculum was developed in tandem with the University of San Francisco and is part of the Computer Science in San Francisco program. It can be viewed here:

Interested teams of 2-4 should contact Mr. Speck immediately to claim their spot as laptops and tablets are limited. This is a non-negotiable. Teams of 5 or more will not be allowed. Individuals will only be considered if there are available laptops and tablets.

If you have any questions please contact me in my room or email me speck_c@aps.edu. Adult volunteers are needed. If you can volunteer part or all of the event please contact me as soon as possible. Please reply to speck_c@aps.edu with a preferred time on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Thank you!!!
