APS supports a whole child, whole school, whole community approach to assist schools in their efforts to ensure that students are healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.

The department’s motto of “Making Connections Happen” is implemented through coordination and targeted alignment of the work of our Five Units and both the services they provide to schools, students, and families AND the family and community partnerships that we foster.

Provides assistance and resources to schools, families, and students in an effort to enhance student attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism.

• Supports engagement with the community school strategy at the school and district level. The community school strategy includes collaborative leadership practices and intentional integration of partners to holistically support school communities.
• Builds, improves, and supports the implementation of systems, processes, and resources to develop, improve, monitor outcomes, and sustain the community school strategy.

Provides technical assistance, training, support, and resources to schools around engaging families as active participants in their children’s education both at school and at home.

Provides technical assistance, partnership support, and resources to schools around Out of School Time Programs, Student Wellness, Food Sales to Students.

• Provides technical assistance, partnership development and training support for Volunteer Programs in schools.
• Through the APS Community Clothing Bank, ensures that students have access to clothing and school supplies.
